Ese’s Weekly Shoot and Quote Challenge: Ugly

This week, Ese has us finding quotes, and images to fit the quote, around ‘Ugly’. Now I’m not sure whether I have succeeded here (and I took a bit of time trying to decide what to post), but at least it’s an attempt, using one of my images from my travels. I hate to duck a good challenge!

Optimism – the doctrine or belief that everything is beautiful, including what is ugly.
Ambrose Bierce

Left behind

Left behind

An image from the ruins of the abandoned town of Craco Vecchia in Basilicata, Italy. I think that these old abandoned items are ugly, but also that there is a certain beauty in decay….

Take a trip over to Ese’s blog to see plenty more interpretations of Ugly here!

  1. Sue, I think it looks like a wonderful still life. I know tyres aren’t so pretty in the flesh.

  2. I see the ugliness of this shape, but you captured it beautifully… Great quote!

  3. Beautiful quote and, to be honest, when I had the first quick look at the photo, it looked like an old painting, almost like a fresco. 🙂

  4. Well, it’s not pretty, Sue, so I reckon you’ve got it! 🙂

  5. Great quote and as Ese says it does look like a fresco

    • Yes, I’m beginning to see that… It’s incredible, the detail that can be dredged up from a RAW file, and brought out with HDR software (something I thought I would have a play with recently).

  6. I think it’s beautiful too. I was about to say that it looks like a lovely, ancient fresco but see that this has been said already! I agree. 🙂

    • Thanks, it’s interesting to see that others have seen what I saw…but as I have already said that detail wasn’t evident until I played about with HDR Efex – makes me wonder whether I have any other treasures lurking in my store of ‘abandoned’ images!
