Weekly Photo Challenge: Focus

Weekly Photo Challenge over at WordPress for this week is Focus. I liked the idea for this challenge, and whilst I know I think about depth of field actively, and use it to put the foreground out of focus, most usually, I just could not think of examples where I had alternated between foreground and background focus and kept the images.

A quick check on my recent visit to Tyneham, and Eureka! I had one, of flowers and dilapidation. Then I had some fun this morning with a vase of flowers and a picture over my mantelpiece. Vase moved to table, flashgun mounted on camera, lens set around 100mm, wide aperture, and another pair of images for the challenge. Unintentionally, both images involve flowers!

The second two images are the best illustration of the use of focus in this way, but I think the first two images are interesting as well. What do you think?

  1. Lovely photos for this challenge! I like the daisy shots the best!

  4. For me, the first two shots are favorites. Love the juxtaposition of the rust vs the fresh flowers.

    • Which is what drew me to take those images in the first place…glad you like them! I just took the indoor images to see how well I could create the effect with focus given that I wasn’t using a lens with an especially wide maximum aperture….

  5. Great examples to illustrate the difference in focal points. I like the daisies and the rusty wheels, as it is the sort of thing I am always photographing. The second image is my favourite with the flowers being the focus, although the colour looks better on the rust too.
Also thanks for stopping by on my blogs Sue, nice to see you there 🙂
