Weekly Travel Theme : Simplicity

Well, I’m all for simplicity at times…makes a refreshing change to bombardment from all sides with images, piled on images, visual noise that we seem to have in our lives increasingly these days (to say nothing of aural noise).

The Travell theme over at Where’s my Backpack? Is just that…simplicity. I have a lot of images of simple doors, splashes of one colour on a white/beige/other background which would fit the theme.

But…I have gone for this black and white image of wooden groynes on a beach, because it is all about simple geometric lines, and has no need of colour.

  1. This simple scene is very effective in B&W, Nice entry for the theme. 🙂

I’m generally not drawn to B&W but this is perfect. I love the simple lines and the contrast is perfect. The composition is also wonderful. You nailed it on this one. I decided to revisit you older posts to see what you do with B&W – so I can learn when I think it is most effective.

    • So kind! I don’t actually do much black and white these days, but might get back into it. For me, you need simple, clean lines and an uncluttered image OR you need something like your barn which looks moody, dramatic. Black and white is about shape and texture, primarily. Oh, and the image, to be really effective, needs to be correctly exposed, with as many tones as possible or it will lack punch. There, that’s me shutting up now….oh no, one more thing, the image I posted yesterday for Sonel’s challenge is an example of a poor black and white!

Over to you...
