In answer to this week’s Photo Challenge, I am posting an image that speaks ‘Beyond’ to me….
Whenever I see a deserted/ruined/abandoned building, I always want to know what is behind the facade – in most cases, I never get to find out…..but I got lucky here. I had been given directions to find this castle, but it was raining hard and we went the wrong way initially. I scrambled up a steep mound, and got this fantastic view…..the sensible way wouldn’t have given the same mysterious impression at all!
We then got to clamber around the whole place. Nearly 2 decades later, it has been cleaned up and a hefty charge required for admission – and no, I haven’t been back.

Where was this taken? In Australia – we don’t have ruined Castles. The only Castle like buildings were built by Governor Macquarie (see http://wp.me/p2X7Ju-pO). 🙂 D 34
In France, the Dordogne, over 2 decades ago. There is some information on the castle here – Ch de Commarque, as it is now. I also found an article from a magazine earlier today which talks about the archaeological excavations.
